Before your service visit

Washer Not Draining?

A washer that holds water may have a drainage problem, but wet clothes alone can also mean the spin cycle did not finish. Record the water level, cycle stage and error code before requesting service.

Safe checks before you book

Water left in the drum, an interrupted cycle and wet clothes at the end of a wash may involve different faults. The point at which the cycle stops helps focus the diagnostic visit.

  • Check whether the cycle has ended or is paused. Read the selected cycle and display message before changing settings; some models pause normally between stages.
  • Look at the visible drain hose for a sharp bend or crushing, only if it is accessible without moving the washer. Do not disconnect the hose or open a filter while water remains inside.
  • Note whether the load was unusually heavy, unbalanced or very sudsy. Also note a recent installation or move, because drain-hose positioning depends on the model’s installation instructions.

What the symptom can tell us

Standing water in the drum

Tell us whether it drains slowly, does not drain at all or hums without draining. A blockage, pump issue and household drain problem require different checks.

No standing water, but clothes are wet

Spin selection, an unbalanced load or an interrupted spin can leave clothes wet. This is not enough evidence to order a drain pump.

Water backing up outside the washer

If the standpipe or nearby sink overflows during draining, stop the cycle. Household plumbing may need a plumber rather than an appliance repair.

What to tell your technician

  • Does water remain in the drum or are only the clothes wet?
  • What cycle and stage were running when it stopped?
  • Is there a full error code on the display?
  • Do you hear a hum, repeated starts or an unusual sound?

How the visit helps

The visit follows the washer’s fill, drain, lock and spin behavior as appropriate to the complaint. The model and test results help distinguish a drainage fault from a sensing or control problem before a repair estimate is prepared.
